Practicing Empathy

Aug 28, 2020

Empathy is not a political activity. It is a human quality.

A human baby cannot survive on its own. We are wired to take care of each other. It is a biological imperative that is deeply embedded in our brains. From an evolutionary perspective, we needed to be alert for danger - so we could plan for individual and collective safety. So we could survive together.

All living things survive by adapting with new situations - more or less “learning” how to stay alive. But human beings, by our very nature, do much more than just keep each other alive. We care about and depend on each other for living. For living.

Being empathetic does not make you a certain type of person. It makes you human. It is our human essence to care about each other.

I believe it is our most important practice.
